Welcome Year 2 IB Visual Arts Students and Parents,
The IB Visual Arts is a demanding program of study requiring students to possess and demonstrate high levels of responsibility, critical thinking, independent research, and self expression. Students are required to demonstrate achievement both visually and in written forms.
The IB diploma program is designed as a complete course of study encompassing six distinct groups. These include the study of multiple languages, mathematics and computer sciences, experimental sciences, individuals and societies, and the arts. Although many students elect not to pursue the diploma program in its entirety, the expectations for the students do not change regardless of how many IB classes a student may be taking.
The greatest strength and challenge of The IB Visual Arts lies in the course's differentiated approach to instruction, discovery, and learning. The expectation is for each individual to work to his or her fullest potential. However, everyone enters the program with varying goals, interests and prior experience. This translates into each student working at different levels of thought, drive, skills, and achievement. It is important to remember that the demonstration of individulized, personal growth is paramount to success.
I invite you to read my additional posts to further understand the goals and expectations of the IBO.
I'm looking forward to an interesting and productive year.
Mr. Tomaselli
